Histopathological spectrum of intrathoracic lesions

Background: Any suspicious lesion in the chest on radiology needs further workup. Conventional bronchoscopy or CT-guided fine needle aspiration may help evaluating these lesions. Materials and methods: The study was carried out pathology department of a tertiary care hospital over period 2 years. Clinical details were taken from records. Samples processed by routine histological techniques stained with hematoxylin eosin. Results: A total 100 cases analyzed. Most lesions lungs (97%), 2% pleura, 1% mediastinum. most common malignancy squamous cell carcinoma (29%) followed adenocarcinoma (24%) small lung (9%). benign tuberculosis (4%), organizing pneumonia (3%), bronchiectasis (2%). Conclusions: present concludes that histopathological examination gives maximum accuracy diagnosing patient intrathoracic so can be started treatment immediately.
